    WHAT YOU'LL DO

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our SMS team, which is responsible for building and scaling Braze’s SMS channel. This team fully owns the SMS channel within the product, from composition and sending to message responses and analytics. It also owns several supporting services for Chat messaging, including our internal click tracking and link shortening service.

As the manager of this new team, you’ll work closely with product, design, and the team’s engineers to build new features in response to customer feedback and scale the channel as message volume grows. You will recruit, coach, and develop the team’s engineers. You will help solve major engineering challenges, by guiding key architectural decisions and (in certain high-leverage cases) via the code you write. Finally, you will have broad responsibility for the team’s vision, goals, and processes. We greatly value colleagues who help make us better engineers and are excited, in turn, to learn from us. If that’s you, we’d love to hear from you!

    WHO YOU ARE

    • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of success, with 1+ years leading high performing teams
    • Thrive on a high level of autonomy and responsibility, while having the ability to dig into technical details to inform decisions
    • Ability to communicate effectively and make hard decisions and tradeoffs
    • Experience building foundational systems at scale and spearheading software projects that significantly advanced the goals of your organization
    • Professional experience with any of: Ruby, Rails, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Sidekiq, JavaScript, or React is a plus

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $191,000 and $230,000/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $225,000 and $250,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.

Home based - Latin America, San José, San José, Costa Rica

This is a general track for first-level engineering management positions at Canonical.

We believe that open source is just starting to transform the tech sector and enterprise compute. Our goal is to make open source easier, more reliable and more secure for deployment and development. We strive to be the provider of ‘most software to most companies’. To deliver on that ambition, our engineers are carefully selected from the applicants across the globe. We select for brilliance and motivation to take open source to the next level. Our engineering managers help teams achieve more than they realised they could, and feel proud of the result.

We believe that Engineering Managers should be outstanding developers themselves. They should be completely at home reviewing a patch or a software design spec. They are trusted engineers who understand the importance of a whole-team effort in creating great products, and who enjoy seeing colleagues develop. They should contribute code themselves to set the standard for coding, but know that the code they write is far less significant than their ability to shape the whole team’s direction, focus and delivery. We grow management skills, and train engineers who are interested in soft skills to be managers.

A typical first-level software engineering team is based in a single time zone such as EMEA or Americas or APAC, with an Engineering Manager and a Senior Engineer dedicated to a single product, who work as a team to shape the roadmap, technical strategy, code, documentation and community engagement. They are both capable of coding, and are both leaders comfortable assigning work and maintaining expectations of delivery. They will both be expected to take management training at Canonical so they speak the same language when it comes to team behaviours, habits, routines, norms and standards, but they focus on different sides of the problem.

An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The ability to develop engineering talent, to represent your team and product from a technical perspective, and to drive collaboration with other teams and customers are all critical to success in this role.

We have open manager roles across a wide range of engineering domains, including:

    • Python and Golang
    • C / C++ / Rust
    • Data infrastructure
    • HTML / CSS / JavaScript / Typescript / React
    • Flutter
    • Distro packaging and systems
    • SAAS and web microservices
    • Kernel
    • Servers
    • Graphics, Browser and Desktop
    • Silicon enablement and embedded devices
    • Product Security

If your domain of expertise isn’t listed above, yet you feel it’s relevant to Canonical, then feel free to apply anyway. We will route you to the most suitable team.

Location: we have engineering management positions open in every time zone

    What you’ll do

    • Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior
    • Work remotely in a single major time zone, sometimes two
    • Coach, mentor, and offer career development feedback
    • Identify and measure team health indicators
    • Implement disciplined engineering processes
    • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
    • Develop and evangelise great engineering and organisational practices
    • Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
    • Be an active part of the leadership team, collaborating with other leaders

What we’re looking for in you

    • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
    • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
    • Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
    • A love of developing and growing people and a track record of it
    • Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring software developers
    • Organised and able to ensure your team delivers timely, high quality results
    • Well-organised, self-starting and able to deliver to schedule
    • Professional manner interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
    • You have advanced expertise in your own domain
    • You are knowledgeable and passionate about software development
    • You have solid experience working in an agile development environment
    • You have a demonstrated drive for continual learning
    • Builds trust, relationships and confidence
    • Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
    • Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each

    Additional skills we value

    • Experience in a developer advocacy or community role
    • Ops and system administration experience
    • Performance engineering and security experience

    What we offer you

We consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide. We revisit compensation annually (and more often for graduates and associates) to ensure we recognise outstanding performance. In addition to base pay, we offer a performance-driven annual bonus. We provide all team members with additional benefits, which reflect our values and ideals. We balance our programs to meet local needs and ensure fairness globally.

    • Distributed work environment with twice-yearly team sprints in person
    • Personal learning and development budget of USD 2,000 per year
    • Annual compensation review
    • Recognition rewards
    • Annual holiday leave
    • Maternity and paternity leave
    • Employee Assistance Programme

    Qualifications

    Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.

    Basic Requirement for Mechanical Engineer:

    A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

    OR

    B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

    1. Professional registration or licensure - Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions.

    2. Written Test - Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, or any other written test required for professional registration, by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.

    3. Specified academic courses - Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and that included the courses specified in A above. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program.

    4. Related curriculum - Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) developing engineering designs and plans for mechanical utility systems (e.g., heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration) as part of construction projects for facilities; (2) evaluating the engineering, design, or construction work performed by other engineers or contractors to ensure compliance; AND (3) performing engineering calculations necessary for the design of mechanical systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

    OR

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Engineering.

    OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

    Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. About the Software Development Team

    • We’re a fast-growing team that is dedicated to improving our people, processes, and platform. The multi-cultural team is composed of a DevOps team, the software engineering team, the Product Management team, the Product Design team, and an Information Security team.
    • We support many different products but internally think of them as one system with a single unified codebase. Our goal is to build centralized systems that handle complex problems for multiple features and products.
    • We’re focused on doing the important things the right way -- we write solid documentation, test our code well, design for scale, and follow defined software development processes.
    • We follow best-in-class security practices to safeguard our data and application against bad actors. We regularly test and update processes and technology to fight complacency, because we know good security is a continuous effort.
    • We curate high-quality datasets that are essential for effective mapping and tracking of the government and public affairs spaces. Our datasets underpin our promise to give users the information necessary to make smart decisions that influence policy.
    • We set rigorous quality standards and monitor them with a mix of programmatic and manual verifications to ensure users maintain a high degree of trust in our systems.
    • We’re very close as a team and invest not only in each others’ skills and careers but also in building real relationships with one another: product development is a team sport and we believe that it’s better (and more fun) to work on a team of people that you know well and care about.

    Our Work Environment

    • We are a remote-first team with flexible work options: work remotely, or you may choose to come into our office in Belo Horizonte.

Quorum Is Working to Advance Pay Equity: What Does That Mean For You?

In an effort to continue to build a diverse and inclusive work environment that advances pay equity, Quorum has implemented a “No Negotiation” policy for base salary for new hires for roles that are currently staffed by three or more team members. This means that candidates for the Senior Fullstack Software Engineer role cannot negotiate Quorum’s base salary offer.

    Here’s our promise to you:

    • We will not ask you what you are currently earning.
    • We will consider years of relevant experience, relevant professional certifications/education, and performance expectations in setting what we believe is a competitive, fair base salary offer.
    • We will be transparent about our compensation structure (see above) so that all candidates have equal access to compensation information and can make an informed decision about whether or not Quorum is the right workplace for them.

If you are interested in learning more about how negotiation impacts pay equity and/or why other start-ups have decided to implement a “No Negotiation” policy of some type, here are a few resources: Project Include, AAUW, Ministry for Women, Magoosh.

Note: Quorum does not endorse or verify any of the information provided in the resources on the impact of negotiation on pay equity. We provide these resources simply to increase awareness of a topic we believe is important for both employers and candidates to consider.

    Who We Are

The Farmer’s Dog is the fastest growing pet health service company in the US, and was born from a mission to change the landscape of pet health, providing dogs and their humans with honest, smart, and simple care – a fresh proposition in an industry riddled with manipulative and misleading marketing. We’re starting by radically improving the $100 billion pet food market, replacing bulk bags of highly-processed pellets with a personalized subscription service that sends healthy, freshly-made dog food, balanced by top veterinary nutritionists, directly to customers’ doors. Our ultimate goal is to create innovative, honest, and delightful experiences across all aspects of pet care, and we believe our direct-to-consumer business model, holistic approach to growth, and dynamic and forward-thinking culture uniquely position us to shepherd this backwards industry into the future.

To date, The Farmer’s Dog has delivered hundreds of millions of meals nationwide and raised over $150M in funding to help us build a company as healthy as the dogs who are eating those meals. Join us as we continue to develop ways of bringing peace of mind to our customers, health to their companions, and much-needed change to the way people feed and care for their pets.

    #LongLiveDogs

The Farmer’s Dog is looking for an Engineering Manager. The Engineering function is building a subscription e-commerce platform from the ground up to support hundreds of thousands of orders being shipped out every day. We’re looking for an Engineering Manager  to provide development, coaching, and mentorship to our team; refine processes, and help with multi-functional management.

This Engineering Manager will need to own performance management and ensure successful group development. Every day, this person will partner closely with Product Managers and Engineers to craft the product and improve processes while removing roadblocks and uncertainty.

    How You'll Make An Impact

    • Support a pawd of 4+ engineers with a focus on mentorship, coaching and personal development
    • Grow and manage a pawd of hardworking and motivated engineers with high expectations around individual ownership and impact
    • Cultivate an inclusive, respectful, and dynamic group
    • Develop a healthy and collaborative culture that is true to The Farmer’s Dog’s values
    • Enable the group to deliver outstanding outcomes
    • Participate in system design and architecture conversations
    • Represent the group in high-level, cross-disciplinary road-mapping discussions
    • Advocate for the group and remove obstacles

    We're Excited About You Because

    • 5+ years of total software engineering experience
    • 3+ years of recent, engineering management experience with a range of responsibilities from developing talent to growing your group into a robust, healthy development organization
    • Experience efficiently delegating group responsibilities, conducting 1:1’s, and providing frequent, clear, relevant feedback
    • Experience architecting for high-scalability and availability

    Office Guidelines

The office is open and available for all, Monday through Friday.  We ask all team members to be in office a minimum of 2-3 days a week to build a collaborative and invested environment to foster our unique in-person culture we are proud to have.  The office policy is subject to change at company discretion.

    Our DEI Philosophy

Our company’s mission is rooted in deep, genuine care for dogs – and for the people who love them. As an organization we are full of individuals who are unique in many ways, but all united in a mission of providing true peace of mind to dog lovers everywhere. Fixing this industry and improving the lives of pets and their people will be a difficult, decades-long endeavor. We believe the best use of our time, energy, and resources as a collective team is to focus on this mission, and on supporting our team to do their best work and be their best selves. In support of this we’re committed to hiring and supporting a diverse workforce, and investing in internal structures, opportunities, hiring/promotions processes, and training that create and sustain an inclusive team. We strive to provide an experience at TFD that will be invested, meaningful and memorable as we progress on the journey to reimagine how we feed and care for our pets.

A Few of Our Best Benefits

    • Market-competitive compensation and equity packages
    • Comprehensive Healthcare, Dental, and Vision
    • 12 week paid parental leave
    • Competitive 401k plan with company match
    • Flexible paid time off policy
    • Discounted fresh food for your pup
    • Your pet interrupting video calls is now a feature, not a bug

We commit to building a competitive compensation package and company environment for all individuals to thrive. We believe in competitive base compensation rooted in location specific market data and performance along with equity ownership in the company that allows every team member to build their personal wealth as the company grows, just as much as we believe in fostering a culture that supports our team members personally, professionally, and holistically.  For this role the anticipated hiring base compensation range is $170,000 - $210,000 USD Annual and the compensation offered will include a robust market competitive package of base and equity.

    • C / C++ / Rust
